Virgin Gorda Island Tour
APPROXIMATE DURATION: 3 HOURS

Virgin Gorda Island TourSecond in size to Tortola is the magical island of Virgin Gorda, renown for its unusual topography and the relaxed and simple way of life. The northern side of Virgin Gorda is primarily mountainous with the highest point reaching 418 metres whereas the southern side is for the most part flat with gigantic boulders at every turn.

You will be met at the Spanish Town ferry dock by colourful open air safari buses to be taken on a leisurely tour of the island, heading first along Virgin Gorda's Ridge Road towards the North Sound. You will have plenty of opportunities to stop on the way to take photographs of the breathtaking views of the surrounding islands including Prickly Pear, Necker Island, Eustatia Island and the Dogs Islands. You may also see a few wandering goats, chickens and donkeys along the way.

A brief stop (approx. 5 mins) will be made at the Gorda Peak National Park, with its wide variety of indigenous and exotic vegetation. Gorda Peak is the highest point on the island and again spectacular views abound. Then its time to descend to Leverick Bay

Resort and Marina, a brightly coloured Caribbean-style resort where you will have the a chance for refreshment at the local Pussers Company Store if so desired or to browse in the selection of local gift and craft shops (stop approx. 15 mins).

Then its back into the Safari buses heading south with the next stop being the world famous Baths (approx. 25 minute drive). The Baths is a unique formation of huge boulders set on the edge of pristine white sandy beaches. The boulders are the direct result of volcanic eruptions over 70 million years ago, rounded and shaped by ocean waves. It is a 10 minute walk down to the Baths from the stop off point and you must watch your footing since the trail is fairly steep in places.

Once at the Baths you can enjoy the naturally formed pools of water set amongst the boulders which provide excellent swimming and snorkeling. There is also a clearly marked National Parks Trail which winds its way through the heart of the Baths giving the opportunity for many memorable photographs. If you are not feeling adventurous you can simply relax under a shady palm or take a gentle swim in the enticing aqua-marine sea. The beach area also provides a quaint beach bar/restaurant, washrooms and a few stalls selling souvenirs and T-shirts.

After approximately one hour, it is time to head back up the trail to the top of the Baths. Here you will be given a refreshing fruit or rum punch by your taxi drivers before being taken back to Spanish Town and to the ship.
